IN THE HEART'S PLACE

The film is set in Marseilles... a working-class neighborhood by the sea... a cultural mix of blacks and whites, jews and arabs... men, women and children...Clémentine, affectionately known as Clim, has been in love with François ever since she can remember. Everyone calls François “Baby”. The two are determined to tie the knot in spite of their tender age -- 16 and 18 respectively. But Baby has been accused of raping a young woman and his thrown into prison. The fact that he is black and adopted doesn’t help his plight. In actuality, it has provoked his unfortunate situation. Unluckily for him, a racist police officer accused him of rape and didn’t relent until Baby found himself behind bars. The film opens as Clim makes her daily visit to Baby in jail. But unlike other days, today she calls him François. She has some serious news to announce. She is pregnant.
