This original singer-guitarist is also a great story-teller. Eric Pittard followed this inveterate nomad step by step, recording his thoughts in his more solitary moments: overwhelming souvenirs that reconstitute the "memory of black Americans" over half a century of the country's history. This improvised autobiography is rich in recollections, like that of his omnipresent manager, the marvellous Rufus Thomas, pioneer of soul music and key personality in the golden era of Memphis which B.B.King considered to be the Mecca of modern blues, just as Chicago was for many others. As we view the concerts and archival footage, a fascinating contrast becomes evident between the simplicity of this character and the complexity of the influences which make the "king of the blues", despite his humility, one of the most original stylists of popular contemporary music.
